Galahs are amongst the most striking of Australian birds, their pink and grey tones accentuated at this time of year as the autumn landscape fades to brown and gold.
The Black Kite is not really black at all, a subtle combination of different shades of brown, and of course that mustard-yellow cere.
The galahs are joyous images!!
Geoff, Have you seen the hundreds of swallows(& maybe martins) gathering, evenings under the supermarket veranda opposite the pub? Just wonderful sight last evening. We are back over from the U.K. for a visit & remember your generosity in taking Andrew & myself out to the Rise & Shine one morning to see birds I grew up with & obviously had never seen!! We have stayed @ AirB&B last week, Yandell St c/Maine….each eve& all night heard from the top of the line of gums opposite, a high, short, one note sound. Couldn’t see a thing as dark. No eye reflections. No one could tell us what it was. As there sounded to be hundreds we are presuming insect. We are staying at brothers and no sound like it here along the Loddon R river gums. Any ideas please. Might Patrick K know if you don’t? Sorry we won’t have time to enjoy more birding this time home, maybe next. All the best & thank you for every post I enjoy from Devon.
Sorry this goes to public comment but have no other way of contact! Annmaree & Andrew Smerdon
