National Bird Week 2014 will take place between Monday 20 October and Sunday 26 October.
The celebration of National Bird Week has its origins back in the early 1900s, when 28 October was first designated by the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union, the predecessor of BirdLife Australia, as the first ‘Bird Day’. BirdLife Australia organises and promotes Bird Week with the goal of inspiring Australians to take action and get involved in bird conservation efforts.
As part of National Bird Week I’m giving a talk on the ecology of birds in the box-ironbark country. It’s on Saturday 18th October (11am- 12.30pm) in the Bendigo Library Reading Room – it would be lovely to see you there!
My talk is part of a diverse program of activities for National Bird Week, supported by the City of Greater Bendigo. Click here for a copy of the full program.
I’ve just returned from your talk, thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved your photos and the brolga sequence was magical. I’m a keen but new birdwatcher/photographer, and do most of it from my car(!!) on regular drives between Bendigo and Rushworth, so the cockatoos, raptors and other large birds you showed were familiar but most of the small birds were not. You’ve whetted my appetite for finding out much more about our local small birds. Thank you.
