Arrival times

I’ve been checking my records regarding arrival dates for Rainbow Bee-eaters.

  • 2010 – 27th October
  • 2011 – 22nd October
  • 2012 – 19th October
  • 2013 – 13th October
  • 2014 – 21st October
  • 2015 – 5th October
  • 2016 – 16th October
  • 2017 – 29th October

This year, 2018, my first sighting was on the weekend just gone … on the 27th October. I was surprised by these records, thinking that they generally arrived in early October. 2015 is the outlier it seems. I thought I made have heard some passing bee-eaters last weekend at the Rise and Shine but can’t be certain. Gee, it’s great to have them back!

  2. Be interesting to note any changes in temperature, rainfall or daylight hours for these years Geoff.
Thank you for your caring , talent and sharing it with us

    • Dear Cath – thanks for your note. As I wrote this post I made a mental note to look back at the climate factors … I’ll get on to it and see what emerges. Cheers, Geoff

I am currently on 2 weeks leave from work, and would be interested in catching up with you again. Bee-eaters are one of the birds on my bucket list of species to photograph. I am also interested in owlet nightjars.
