  1. Such a delightful variety in your Pool Days posts Geoff. Your backgrounds seem to match the birds – must be the artist in you.

  2. I notice the Black Duck is ringed! Celia

  3. Pool Days #1 and this one = brilliant photos thank you for sharing them, just lovely, and what a superb mix of species. I can’t say that I can see a ring on the black duck – wonder if Celia was mistaking shadow for a ring?

Many thanks Geoff Great photos but I think you have a White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike rather than a Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike Regards Kevin

    • Hi Kevin – always happy to be corrected but am pretty confident of this ID: the shape of the ear patch (much larger than what you’d see on the WBCS), slight hook to bill, lacked rear white eye ring. This individual was with a couple of adult BFCS and its call was distinctive. We get both species commonly around Newstead. All the best, geoff
