Xmas river highlights

Here are a few highlights from the pre-Xmas reel.

Black-fronted Dotterels are scattered in pairs along the Loddon River – the gravel banks are ideal breeding sites and receding pools provide good feeding opportunities on exposed mud.

This Juvenile Rufous Songlark was seen in the company of its parents – they were much more camera-shy.

This Sacred Kingfisher will soon be bringing large prey items to the nest tunnel – stay tuned for some shots of the action over the next week or so.

  1. I haven’t seen or heard any Rufous Songlarks along the river this year. But the Kingfishers are always delightful with their continual calling.
