Second best …

My quarry was a Rainbow Bee-eater at the Newstead Cemetery – they’ve been a bit fluky this season with only one pair apparently nesting in the usual site, and their attendance has been somewhat erratic. I’ve had to move to ‘greener’ pastures in the hope of finding adults bringing food into nestlings, which typically happens in the week leading up to Xmas – more on that in a day or two!

Not to worry, as there are still some nice birds in the ‘seconds’ at the cemetery – a pair of cooperative Restless Flycatchers were joined by Yellow-rumped Thornbills along the fence-line as I waited in vain for Rainbowbirds.
