Mistletoebirding

This female Mistletoebird, featured last week, is now sitting on eggs. With the warm weather it’s quite happy to leave the nest unattended for short periods as it goes to forage. Upon its return to the nest it follows a familiar ritual – arriving with some cobwebs to add to the nest lining it dives inside and then uses its body to reshape the inside of the structure, before settling down to keep watch from the entrance.

They are glorious little birds.
