In the depths of winter

It’s going to be a wet and gloomy day but lets welcome the rain – the pay off will come when Spring arrives in a few short weeks.

Superb Fairy-wren – possibly an immature male.

  1. Gorgeous photos, as always. The Fairy Wren is a male without a doubt – black bill, no eye-ring. I’m unsure why you think it might be immature.

  2. Hi Bob – I suspect you are correct. The bill tough is dark bone coloured rather than black and there is a trace of brown around the eye. The tail certainly is blue, but not different to some of the females in the garden.
    Cheers, geoff

  3. Lovely sunny shots for a cold weekend, even here in Alice.
