Farewell Doug!

Family and friends assembled at the Castlemaine Gardens this afternoon to pay tribute to the life of Doug Ralph. There were many wonderful stories shared – spanning a life of politics, environmental activism, volunteering, on-ground conservation and community contribution, and of course, his deep knowledge and love of the bush around Castlemaine.

Marie Jones recalls her memories of Doug.

Christine Henderson, accompanied by Jan Wositzky, perform “I’ll Fly Away”.

Fittingly, as Christine Henderson sang a marvellous rendition of “I’ll Fly Away”, a flock of Long-billed Corellas appeared to wheel rowdily over the bandstand!

A huge crowd listened on as Phil Ingamells recalled how Doug’s efforts lead to greater protection of the box-ironbark country.

Fare well Doug.

One response to “Farewell Doug!

  1. Thank you for sharing, I don’t feel so isolated, and feel like I’m still part of the community who appreciated his work!
