Coracina papuensis

The box-ironbark country around Newstead is somewhat of a stronghold for the White-bellied (Little) Cuckoo-shrike Coracina papuensis. It’s nice to see them breeding successfully. I came across this fledgling at the Rise and Shine yesterday, attended and fed regularly by two adults. The youngster looks like it left the nest ahead of schedule, a common occurrence with small birds, often in response to disturbance by a potential predator.

Hanging on for dear life.
