Same place – another year

A pair of Sacred Kingfishers has returned to nest in the ancient River Red-gum beside the Loddon. Using exactly the same site as last season, the birds are currently incubating – their harsh, scolding calls another sign of summer by the river.

Sacred Kingfisher arrives at the nest, Loddon River @ Newstead, 13th December 2014.

The nest site is the same as last year, the small hollow in the centre of this photograph.

Disappearing inside to continue incubating.

A spectacular departure!

  1. Agree that that last image is spectacular – well captured!

  2. Yes the last image is brilliant, is that a bee or a fly doing the same thing just above the hollow?
