Dotterel vignette

Black-fronted Dotterels can be a nervous, flighty species. No wonder really, as they spend their lives on exposed shorelines and mudflats.

I just sat still for 30 minutes or so by the lake to get these shots. Once the bird became comfortable with my presence it happily picked its way past me, about five metres away. While it decided that the photographer no longer posed a threat it remained alert to other dangers – an eye to the sky especially.
