David and Goliath

Inter-species aggression is common in the bird world – especially during the breeding season.

I’m frequently amused when watching an apparent mis-match, like this incident between nesting Dusky Woodswallows and a resting Brown Falcon. The action took place near the Newstead Cemetery earlier in the week. The Dusky Woodswallows were clearly upset at the raptor, making more than thirty passes over a five-minute period – the object of their ire was not all that bothered.

Through the gap!

The smaller bird is careful not to actually make contact, but comes perilously close.
