A recent little jaunt down Spring Hill Track in search of bird life was well rewarded when the voluble cries of three Dusky Woodswallow fledglings drew me towards their perch.
It seemed that the parent was not going to feed them ’til they separated and it kept calling to them from different trees. Once they were apart, the parent went about feeding them.
I assume that this strategy not only ensures everyone gets some food easier, but reduces the risk of losing all three to a predator in one hit. There was also a very busy little flock of Yellow-tufted Honeyeaters and a pair of Rainbow Bee-eater fledglings being fed by a parent.

Magic photos Patrick, Is it possible mum is also forcing them to work for their food by going to her??
